Body of 21-year-old Fouke man recovered from Sulphur River

The body of Ryan Shane Johnson, 21, of Fouke was found just after noon Thursday in the Sulphur River near Smith Park.

First responders have been searching since he disappeared while wading in the river with friend Tuesday evening.

On Thursday, the 15th day of June, 2017 at approximately 12:15 P.M. the Miller County Office of Emergency Management in conjunction with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, the Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Department, and the Bright Star Volunteer Fire Department recovered the body of 21-year-old Ryan Shane Johnson of Fouke, Arkansas from the Sulfur River at the Smith Park Landing.

In a released statement Miller County Sheriff’s Office said, “we would like to thank the Corp of Engineers, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Salvation Army, Red Cross, Bowie County Sheriff’s Office, Genoa Volunteer Fire Department, Boggy Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Mandeville Volunteer Fire Department, the Doddridge Volunteer Fire Department, the Bowie County Dive Team and many others who volunteered their time during this unfortunate incident. Each of these entities devoted many hours assisting in the recovery. Their time and effort was essential in the process and we want to extend our thanks for their dedication to duty.”
