The Texarkana Texas Police Department arrested Camron Blackwell, 18, of Texarkana Arkansas, after he tried to flee from officers in a parking lot on Wednesday evening.

Officers attempted to stop a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt for a traffic violation in the 2600 block of New Boston Road on Wednesday at approximately 9:07 p.m. Blackwell turned into the Burger King parking lot as if he were going to stop, but continued around the back of the building. Blackwell suddenly accelerated and he sped back toward New Boston Road. Without slowing down, Blackwell tried to reenter the roadway and struck a wrecker that was traveling eastbound on New Boston Road. Blackwell immediately climbed out the window of his vehicle and started running north across New Boston Road. Officers pursued him on foot until he was arrested as he tried to climb over a fence in the alley near Virginia and Jerome Streets.

Both vehicles sustained substantial damage during the crash. LifeNet paramedics treated Blackwell and the driver of the wrecker for minor injuries at the scene of the crash. During the vehicle inventory, officers found a backpack that contained a marijuana and a loaded .380 pistol inside Blackwell’s vehicle.

Blackwell was transported to Bi-State Jail, where he remains in custody with a total bond of $25,000. He is charged with Evading Arrest with a Vehicle, Possession of Marijuana, and Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon.
