Texarkana College is honored to announce an open-to-the-public Texas Tribune event to be held on the TC campus on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM. The Texas Tribune is known around the state as an authoritative non-partisan online news media organization informing and engaging Texans about public policy, politics, government and statewide issues. Its mission is to bring greater transparency and accountability to public policy, politics and government through news, data and events.

Senator Bryan Hughes, R-Mineola, is currently serving his first term representing Senate District 1. He serves as vice chairman of the Senate State Affairs Committee and sits on the Administration, Criminal Justice and Education committees. Previously, Hughes served seven terms in the Texas House and was a member of the board of trustees of the Stewards Foundation.
Representative Gary VanDeaver, R-New Boston, has represented House District 1 since 2015. He serves as vice chairman of the House Administration Committee and sits on the Public Education and Appropriations committees, as well as the Subcommittee on Educator Quality. Previously, VanDeaver worked as a rural educator and served as the superintendent of New Boston Independent School District.
This event will be held in the Texarkana College Great Room, located on the second floor of the Truman Arnold Student Center on the Texarkana College campus. The event is free and open to the public and includes a light lunch. Complimentary visitor parking is available in the parking lots surrounding the Student Center.
