Mount Pleasant Coach Killed in Wreck involving School Bus

Two people are dead after a crash involving a Mount Pleasant Independent School District bus, a Semi-Truck, and a car.

According to reports one of the deceased is an assistant coach, who was following the bus in a car, for the women’s track team.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to a three vehicle crash on US 271 in Titus County approximately one mile south of Talco, according to a Texas DPS press release.

Preliminary information indicates an International truck tractor/semi-trailer was traveling north on US 271. A Mt. Pleasant Independent School District School Bus was traveling south on US 271 followed by a Pontiac Grand Am passenger car driven by a coach. For an as yet undetermined reason, the driver of the truck tractor drove into the southbound lane and struck the school bus and the passenger car.

The driver of the semi-truck and the driver of the passenger car have died. Several passengers on the school bus were transported to area hospitals.

Initial reports were that four of the passengers sustained serious injuries and the rest were reported to be non-life-threatening. The investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
