13-year-old arrested in shooting that killed 12-year-old

On February 20th, 2017 at approximately 2:00 p.m. the Texarkana Arkansas Police responded to East 50th Street in reference to a 911 call of shooting. Upon arrival officers discovered a 12-year-old juvenile male with a gunshot wound. The juvenile male was pronounced deceased at the hospital shortly after being transported by ambulance.

Since the incident, the Texarkana Arkansas Criminal Investigation Division has conducted numerous interviews and received the preliminary findings from the Arkansas State Crime Lab.

Based on evidence, statements, and other information learned subsequent to the shooting, investigators prepared a file and sought counsel from the prosecuting attorney’s office. A felony arrest warrant was later issued, charging the 13 year old cousin of the victim with Tampering with Physical Evidence in the case.

On March 7th, 2017, the Texarkana Arkansas Police located and arrested the 13-juvenile male, who lived with the victim at the time of the incident. The juvenile male is currently at the Texarkana Arkansas Juvenile Detention Center.
