3 Miller County women face gambling charges

Three Miller County woman have been charged with running a gambling house.

Helen Swint, 77; Martha George, 73; and Betty Swint, 51, were arrested in May after officers raided a home in the 5200 block of Blackman Ferry Road in Texarkana, Ark.

Operating a gambling house is a felony punishable by up to six years in prison and a fine of $10,000.

Texarkana, Arkansas Police and Miller County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the women in January.

According to a search warrant affidavit On January 21st, 2015 Investigators with the Texarkana Narcotics Task Force utilized a confidential and reliable source, equipped with an audio/video device, to play the gaming machines in Helen Swint’s residence located at 5227 Blackman Ferry Rd Texarkana, AR.

According to the affidavit investigators used undercover sources to gamble in the house three more times.

Police confiscated five gambling machines, $319 in cash, a notebook ledger and multiple receipt books during the raid.

According to the affidavit, “Helen is supplying the house, gambling machines, and money when changing larger bills so patrons can play the machines and upon winning Helen Swint or her daughter Betty Swint are paying the patrons their winnings with cash money.”

All three women are currently free on $8,000 bail.
