An odd chain of events about 9 p.m. Monday led to a series of 911 calls, reports of a robbery, cars chasing a tractor-trailer down State Line Avenue, and one car firing a gun at a semi.

“At this time the initial call is being investigated by our Criminal Investigation Division,” said Kristi Mitchell, Public Information Officer with the Texarkana, Ark., Police Department. “They are determining what, in fact, occurred in the 5100 block of North State Line Avenue.”

It is from there that things became even more bizarre.

“When their victim left the scene of what was dispatched as a ‘robbery,’ he drove north on Stateline in his semi-truck being followed by a couple of vehicles. At some point, a black car joined in the pursuit of the victim. The victim then turned around and drove back towards Texarkana on Highway 71,” said Chief Deputy Jeff Neal with the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office.
While traveling southbound on Highway 71, the black car caught up to, and passed, the victim in his truck. Several gun shots were then allegedly fired from the black car at the victim. At least one round struck the victim’s truck, Neal said.
“A short time later, Deputy Stephen Powell located and stopped the black car. Two suspects, Steven Elmore Williams, 29, of Saratoga, Ark., and Markel Demorris Sims, 19, of Texarkana, Ark., were both arrested for deadly conduct,” Neal said.

Two firearms were also recovered from the suspects’ vehicle. Both men were taken to the Bi-State Jail where they had their bonds set at $30,000 each.
No one was injured during the shooting.
