Bowie County Deputies recognized for saving woman from burning house

The Texas State Fire Marshal’s Office presented two Bowie County Deputies, Kenny McMillen and Michelle Carrier, with awards for their life saving actions at a house fire that occurred earlier this year on Trexler Road.
IMG_0062On March 9, 2015 the two deputies arrived at a house fire on Trexlar Rd. at around 2:00 a.m. and found 68-year-old Dewy Milton was lying on the porch, he was later pronounced dead.   His wife Loy Helen Melton was pulled out of the burning home by the two deputies.

Bowie County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jeff Neal and Bowie County Judge James Carlow also presented the deputies with awards.

 

The event was held on the third floor of the Bi-State Building at the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Carrier told reporters after the awards ceremony that “I think god put us there that day for a reason and we did his work.”

Loy Helen Melton the woman deputies rescued from the home was also present to personally thank them.
