City Earns Recognition For Financial Reporting | City of Texarkana, Texas

TEXARKANA, TEXAS– The City of Texarkana, Texas has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its 2013 comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. This certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. This is the 24th year in a row the City of Texarkana, Texas has earned this recognition.

Chief Financial Officer for the City of Texarkana, Texas, Charlie Bassett, leads a staff of seven who are responsible for producing the annual report. The finance department’s dedication to transparency and sound financial accounting has earned this award year after year for the city.

“[This report] has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the highest standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive ‘spirit of full disclosure’ to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read [it],” the Government Finance Officers Association said in a press release issued in September.
