DeKalb man dies from injuries suffered in crash on 259

On Monday at 5:13 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers responded to a crash on US-259, approximately a quarter mile west of DeKalb.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates that a 1992 Isuzu 300 was traveling north on US-259, waiting to make a left turn onto CR-1701. The Isuzu failed to yield right of way to a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe that was traveling south on US-259.

The driver of the Isuzu, James Curtis Cherry, a 78 year old male from DeKalb, TX, was airlifted to Christus St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana, and then onto UAMS Little Rock where he died the following day during surgery. The driver of the 2014 Hyundai, Brenda Sprinkle Gillis, a 69 year old female from Oklahoma City, OK, received minor injuries.

This crash remains under investigation. No additional information is available at this time.
