Texas A&M University-Texarkana ranked first in Texas and 23rd in the nation in Student Loans Report’s recent ranking of the “Most Affordable Colleges for Incoming Freshman with Financial Need.”

“The average student loan borrower graduates with over $27,000 in debt. This number doesn’t even include interest that could be charged depending on the lifetime of the repayment process,” said Student Loans report founder Drew Cloud in issuing the rankings. “College has became an extremely important avenue towards employment and wealth for high school graduates. The only problem is that college tuition and the overall cost of attendance are soaring. Providing an affordable education is extremely important, so Texas A&M University-Texarkana is doing a great job.”

To determine the rankings, Student Loans Report analyzed more than 1,000 colleges and universities using Peterson’s data. Peterson’s offers the most comprehensive college and university databases in the market and has over 50 years of experience collecting and publishing the industry’s most accurate and objective education data. The ranking was determined by multiplying the percent of freshmen with financial need by the average amount given to needy freshmen.

“Senate Bill 1272 allows us to keep tuition low for our non-resident freshman from Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana,” said A&M-Texarkana Director of Financial Aid Michael Fuller. “This enables us to award equitable financial aid packages to all incoming freshman, not just Texas residents.”
