Free child safety seat check to take place at Texarkana Fire Station

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, four out of every five car seats are installed incorrectly.

In order to ensure the safety of your child, make sure their car seat is installed properly.

Parents and caregivers can have their child safety seats checked to make sure they meet current safety standards, they are installed correctly and find out what type of safety seats are required for different ages and sizes of children.

Free child safety checks will be administered Friday, August 26, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Texarkana Fire Station located at 4315 Summerhill Road.

During this event, on-site certified technicians will educate caregivers about proper car seat installation. According to TxDOT no appointment is necessary to receive a child seat check.

According to TXDOT, replacement car seats will be provided to participants with substandard safety seats for qualifying Texas residents. In order to prove Texas residency, participants should be sure to bring proof, such as a utility bill, as well as proof of government assistance (WIC or Medicare card). In addition, the child using the seat must be present and parents must know the weight and height of the child.
