A local Chinese buffet restaurant was closed this morning after failing a second health inspection.

China King Buffet located on State Line Plaza, 5001 N State Line Avenue in Texarkana, Texas was closed at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning after health inspector discovered evidence of an insect infestation of German roaches and flies.

According to Lisa Thompson, Texarkana, Texas Public Information Officer the restaurant failed a routine health inspection that was carried out on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.

The Chinese buffet failed this first health inspection due to multiple health violations that included a slimy substance on ice machines, hands not properly washed by employees, food not protected in freezer for proper storage, food contact with surfaces that were not sanitized, walls/floors substance buildup, toilet facilities not properly clean, among numerous others.

Health inspectors were scheduled to visit the buffet Wednesday at 11 a.m. in order to carry out a second health inspection. However, upon arriving the health inspector discovered an insect infestation and determined the restaurant officially closed, thus suspending the owner’s food establishment permit.

“Our health inspectors were let in by the owners this morning in order to reinspect and reinstate the establishment but before they could carry out the inspection they found the roach infestation, which was a bigger concern than all of the things they failed the previous day, so the establishment was closed,” explained Thompson.

The food establishment has been officially prohibited from serving to the public and has not scheduled a time or date to be reinspected.
