Local students receive Greater Texarkana Young Professionals (GTYP) scholarship

Greater Texarkana Young Professionals (GTYP) presented $1,000 scholarships to Shelby Cowley and Sydney Lewis. Both students are 2016 graduates of Redwater High School. Cowley plans on attending Henderson State University to pursue Nursing. Lewis plans on attending the University of Central Arkansas to pursue Occupational Therapy.

This was the inaugural year for the GTYP scholarship. The applicant pool is comprised of competitive applicants from the graduating classes of Bowie and Miller county high schools.

“Our organization has a mission that emphasizes the growth of our community. We want to make sure that our efforts can be reflected through the advancement of higher education for the young adults in our area. This year’s recipients will be sure to use these funds to actively engage in the transformative experience of higher education,” said Jennifer Felps, GTYP Chair.

Greater Texarkana Young Professionals is a committee of the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce that promotes the retention, education, and growth of diverse young professionals in the Texarkana region through professional and social immersion.
