Man dies after being struck on Interstate 30

A man is dead after being hit by a car when his own vehicle was parked on the side of Interstate 30.

Melenta Zekanovic, 52, of Canada died in the incident that occurred at 5:36 p.m. Thursday evening.

The accident occurred while Zekanovic was parked on the right shoulder westbound of I-30 at the 29.75 mile marker.

According to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police, Zekanovic was standing between the driver side door of his vehicle and the fog line when another vehicle traveled onto the right shoulder and struck the man and his vehicle.

Zekanovic was pronounced dead at 6:08 p.m. Thursday by Hempstead County Coroner Ben Brazzel.

According to officials, the driver of the vehicle that struck Zekanovic had no injuries.
