Man riding horse on Ida Street hit by car

A witness to the crash comforts the horse while an animal control officer injects a tranquilizer.

7:15 p.m. Sunday | A man riding a horse down Ida Street in Texarkana, Ark. was hit by a passing car Sunday evening injuring the man and the horse.

The rider was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries by a private vehicle before first responders arrived on scene.

The horse suffered an open fracture on one of its front legs and was tranquilized on scene by a Texarkana Animal Control officer.  Multiple witnesses to the accident assisted in keeping the horse calm and under control until the tranquilizer could take effect.

According to an officer on scene the horse will be transported by Animal Control and will be euthanized due to the extent of its injuries.   No injuries were reported in the vehicle.
