The Arkansas Historic Commission approved both murals submitted by Main Street Texarkana today, October 18, 2017.
The Amtrak mural is designed by Art Pletcher, known best for the Scott Joplin mural downtown. “It will be the “backdrop” to the new landscape that Main Street Texarkana just completed,” said Ina McDowell, Executive Director of Main Street.
“This is considered the additional “bookend” of our downtown. It is the south side of Union Station where visitors arrive/depart on AMTRAK. A very important location, often where a first impression is made of Texarkana and our downtown area.”
The second artist, Joel Wright, will paint his mural on the Abernathy building next to Zapata’s restaurant.
“Main Street is excited to bring the vibrant colors and historic theme to our downtown,” McDowell elaborated.
