New County Budget Raises Property Tax Rate 37 Percent

The Bowie County Commissioners Court approved a new budget that increased the property tax rate for the new fiscal year.

Property taxes will be about 37% higher, which is an increase from a rate of  $0.348363/$100 to $0.473610/$100.

The increase comes after recent financial trouble for the county. In early July, county workers salaries were cut by 15%.

The tax hike is needed to payback a $5 million loan that the county obtained in June of this year to cover payroll expenses.

The 2015 fiscal year starts October 1st, 2014. Check back for full budget when it becomes available.
