One dead, one critical after overnight fire at Ambassador Inn

One person is dead and another in critical condition after a fire at the Ambassador Inn in Texarkana, Ark. early Sunday morning.

According to Texarkana, Ark. Fire Marshall Steven Johnson, a couch caught fire in a residence in the office area of the hotel where management slept.

One person was taken to Wadley Hospital where they were pronounced dead and another to St. Michael and then transferred to Little Rock in serious condition.

According to Johnson, noxious smoke from the couch burning filled the room.

According to Johnson the area was fitted with fire alarms and he isn’t sure why they didn’t go off.

THe office area is separated from the hotel so guests were not affected by the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and the victim’s name have not been released at this time.
