Suspect Runs From Police Causes Accident & Leaves Kids Behind

On June 24, 2014 at approximately 12:30pm Texarkana Texas Police Officers were advised by Texarkana Arkansas Police Officers that the suspect in a hit and run accident from their town was seen fleeing west into the Texas side. TTPD officers observed the suspect vehicle and attempted to catch up to perform a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle was traveling west on W.13th Street when it entered the intersection of Summerhill Road and caused another crash. The driver of the suspect vehicle, Shuntay Johnson, 23, of Texarkana, Texas fled on foot with her 5 children who were all 6 years old or younger. Officers made contact with Johnson in an alleyway nearby where they observed her tossing the children over a fence. Johnson fled on foot from officers leaving the children in the alleyway. Johnson was captured after a brief foot chase and arrested for Endangering/Abandoning a Child, Resisting Arrest, and Evading Arrest on foot. Johnson also had an unrelated felony warrant. The children were transported to the hospital to be checked for injuries.

12:30 P.M. Tuesday | Exact details are unknown at this time, we are waiting for a response from TTPD. A vehicle fled from the police near 13th & Summerill appearing to wreck with 2 other vehicles. The car then came to stop in an alley a block of 13th near Summerhill.

The driver then continued on foot leaving at least 4 small children in the vehicle. Although TTPD had one person detained on scene it is unknown if it was the driver of the car.
