carcahseA Texarkana man is dead from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound after leading area authorities on a 50 mile pursuit during which he fired at law enforcement while traveling over 100 MPH.

The chase began around seven a.m this morning after authorities in Little River County received a call about a man driving north on highway 71 near the Red River Bridge  that had pulled on a gun on someone at the rest area.  Ashdown Police and Little River deputies attempted to stop the man in Ashdown but the suspect continued north at a high rate of speed.

According to De Queen Police Chief Richard McKinley, deputies deployed stop sticks causing the vehicle to wreck.    Police believe that the suspect shot himself soon after wrecking.  Due to the car leaving the roadway and entering a heavily wooded area it took police hours to reach him.
