Texarkana students to host community-wide candlelight vigil in memory of Orlando victims

Students at Texas A&M University-Texarkana will host a community-wide candlelight vigil in memory of the victims of the Orlando tragedy Thursday, June 16, at 8:30 p.m. on the pond-side patio in front of the University Center on the A&M-Texarkana campus, 7101 University Ave., Texarkana, Texas.

A&M-Texarkana President Dr. Emily Cutrer will welcome guests. Alana Briley will sing the National Anthem and make brief remarks. Speakers will include Joseph Bales, district manager of the Social Security Administration, and A&M-Texarkana students.

Richie Ritter-Reese, an A&M-Texarkana student and president of the Student Government Association, will read the names of the victims during a slideshow. The university library’s Liberty Bell replica will be sounded after each name.

The event is being organized by students at A&M-Texarkana and is open to students, faculty, staff and the entire community.
