Texas High School Publications Department receives Texas’ Top Awards for student-produced newspaper, online newspaper and yearbook

The Texas High School Publications Department received Texas’ top awards in journalism during the Interscholastic League Press Conference (ILPC) Convention held on April 16-17 in Austin, TX.

The Tiger Times newspaper and the Tiger Time Online, were two of only five student-produced newspapers to receive a Gold Star. The Tiger yearbook was one of 13 Silver Stars awarded for being the best in state.

Eleven students won the state award of TOPS in Texas for their work. They are: Jessica Emerson, Newspaper: Sports Column; Madeline Hunley, Yearbook: Student Life Feature Story; Rachel Lewis, Newspaper: Photo Portfolio; Caroline May, Newpaper: Double Truck Design; Alex O’Gorman, Newspaper: Feature Writing; Madeline Parish, Newspaper: Sports Action Photo; Katherine Stoeckl, Newspaper: News Writing; Team of Alex Heo & Tye Shelton, Newspaper: Sports Page Design; Team of Rachel Lewis & Alex O’Gorman, Newspaper: Page One Design.

Additionally, 27 students received Individual Achievement Awards for print newspaper, online newspaper and yearbook.
