Three College Students Killed in Wreck

Three local area college students were killed last night in a wreck on I-30 around the 9 mile marker.

A release from Texas A&M University-Texarkana says they are saddened to report that the tragic automobile accident claimed the lives of our beloved students Daniel Gonzalez, Nathaniel Rodriguez and Sofia George who was also a student at Texarkana College.

According to an Arkansas State Police Preliminary Fatal Crash Summary the car, a Mazda driven by Victor Juarez, was merging onto I-30 eastbound from the shoulder when it was rear ended by an eighteen wheeler. According to the report three people were pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Shipp at 3 a.m. Saturday morning.

The driver of the eighteen wheeler and his passenger both from Laredo, Texas were not injured. The driver along with two other passengers in the Mazda received unknown injuries.

A press release by TAMUT says counselors and staff are on campus at any time to provide grief services, they will be available at 1:00 p.m. today in University Center Rooms 247-248 to provide support in processing this tragedy. Please contact Barbara 903-276-8276 for counseling services.
