Two Arkansas residents killed in wreck on Highway 8

TEXARKANA – On 11/02/17, at approximately 1:15 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to a crash on SH-8, approximately 3 miles north of New Boston, Texas.

A 2004 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Cody Gerald Wayne, was traveling north on SH-8, and a 2017 Chevrolet Sparks, driven by Kay Julene Platt, was traveling south on SH-8.

According to a witness, after the Chevrolet Malibu drifted into the southbound lane of SH-8, into the path of the Chevrolet Sparks, the driver of the Sparks took evasive action to the left into the northbound lane. Both vehicles collide in the center of SH-8, killing both the driver and passenger of the Chevrolet Sparks.

Kay Julene Platt, 46 year old female from De Queen, Arkansas, and a passenger, 52 year old male from Ashdown, Arkansas, were pronounced dead on scene by JP Susie Spellings.

The driver of the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu, Cody Gerald Wayne, 57 year old male from Foreman, AR. Was transported to St. Michael’s Hospital.
