Two arrested in connection to July, 2014 beating death of man in Hope, Ark.

Police in Hope say two people have been arrested in connection with the July 2014 beating death of 57 year old Gary Tubberville.

On May 21, 2015, at approximately 445pm, investigators from the Hope Police Department arrested Lucas Wayne Barnett, 30, of Hope. Barnett was taken into custody in the area of 14th and Main streets in Hope as a result of a felony warrant for his arrest for Capital Murder.

According to Hope Police this arrest is the result of an ongoing investigation into a homicide that occurred on July 2, 2014. The victim in that incident, Gary Tubberville, 57, was found beaten and unresponsive inside a residence in the 300 block of South Ferguson Street.

A man who works in the area said that he heard a woman screaming just before 9 a.m. Wednesday July 2, 2014 and went out to see what was wrong. According to the man, the woman told him to call 911 because she had found her father laying in the floor of his residence covered in blood. He said he immediately called 911.

According to HPD Chief J.R. Wilson, a call came in to 911 at 9 a.m. for a sick or injured person at 302 South Ferguson. Chief Wilson said Pafford EMS was contacted and officers in the area arrived on scene immediately. The officers discovered the body of 57-year-old Gary Tuberville inside his residence and called for Criminal Investigation Division (CID) detectives

Sharlee M. Cole, 21, of Hope was also arrested and charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution in the same incident.

Both Barnett and Cole were booked into the Hempstead County Detention Facility where they await a first court appearance.

Bond for Cole was set at $500,000 and Barnett was given no bond.
