Former pro football player and Texas High grad charged with possessing marijuana

A former St. Louis Rams wide receiver and Texas High School graduate from Texarkana was arrested in September for allegedly possessing a pound of marijuana.

Nathan Dewayne Jones Jr., 31, was charged with possession of marijuana, four ounces to five pounds, following a traffic stop by Texarkana, Texas, police Sept. 21, according to a probable cause affidavit. Officers were conducting surveillance on a house near west 15th Street in Texarkana, Texas, when they observed Jones walk out of a house on Garden Street carrying a blue shoe box.

The man, later identified as Jones, approached a black Dodge Charger parked in front of the house. A woman got out of the driver’s seat and got into the passenger seat and the man got behind the wheel of the car. Jones allegedly failed to signal lane changes while traveling on New Boston Road. Police pulled the car over after it merged into traffic on Interstate 30.

Jones allegedly told the officers he had just picked the woman up from getting her hair done and that the two of them were traveling to Hooks to visit a relative of his.

After getting consent to search the car, officers allegedly found a ziploc bag containing 16.8 ounces of marijuana inside the shoe box. Jones is currently free on bond. The case has not been formally indicted.
