SUMMARY:Great Texarkana Duck Race Set for August 18\, 2018
DESCRIPTION:The ducks are racing again! The Friends of the Foundation of CHRISTUS St. Michael Foundation will present The Great Texarkana Duck Race on Saturday\, Aug. 18\, 2018\, at Holiday Springs Water Park\, 5501 Crossroads Parkway\, Texarkana\, Ark. The Duck Race will benefit 3D mammography services at the CHRISTUS St. Michael Imaging Center. \nAs in previous years\, rubber ducks “adopted” by community supporters will race for prizes including a 2018 Kia Forte LX. The ducks will splish and splash in the chilly waters of the “River Rapids” Lazy River at Holiday Springs Water Park\, “racing” their way around the river at 10 a.m. with winners for five prizes announced after the race. The first duck to cross the finish line will win the top duck prize\, the 2018 Kia Forte LX from Classic Kia. Second place prize is a $1\,000 gift card from Dillard’s. Third place prize is a $1\,000 gift certificate from Holiday Cleaners; fourth place prize is a $500 gift card from Super 1 Foods; fifth place prize is 65 Tundra Yeti Cooler from LedWell Machinery. \nMonkey Island and Splash Mountain Texarkana will be open from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. for family fun activities on race day. \nDucks can be adopted for a donation of $5 each\, or you can adopt five ducks and receive a sixth duck free for a donation of $25. Adoptions will be available online at www.christusstmichaelfoundation.org<http://www.christusstmichaelfoundation.org>  starting July 11\, 2018\, until 4:30 p.m. on Friday\, Aug. 17\, or by calling Duck Central at (903)614-7223 until 4:30 p.m. on Friday\, Aug. 17. Duck adoption papers can be obtained at Duck Central\, CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System\, 2600 St. Michael Drive\, Texarkana\, Texas. \nAdmission into the Duck Race at Holiday Springs Water Park will be free with the adoption of one duck ($5 per person) from 9 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. One minor (per duck adopted) will be admitted to the event when accompanied by an adult who adopted a duck. All persons must exit the park by 10:45 a.m. Only 3\,000 will be admitted\, first come\, first serve basis. \nProceeds from previous Duck Races have helped to build the Pediatric Unit and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of CHRISTUS St. Michael\, benefited area cancer patients\, purchased a patient transport van\, and more. \nThis year’s race\, benefiting mammography services\, will have a huge impact on breast health care for the Texarkana\, Atlanta and Cass County regions. Three-dimensional (3-D) mammography (also known as breast tomosynthesis)\, provides radiologists with another tool to screen and diagnose breast cancer. This additional expansion of technology made possible by the community’s generous support adds to the advanced technology only available at CHRISTUS St. Michael Imaging Center. The facility is the Texarkana region’s only Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). \nFor more information or to obtain an entry form\, call Duck Central at (903) 614-7223.

SUMMARY:NICU celebration
DESCRIPTION:Wadley Regional Medical Center will be hosting its first Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Birthday Celebration on Saturday\, April 7th from 10am-12pm.  The NICU Birthday Party will be held in the front of the hospital between the Main Entrance and the Day Surgery entrance.  This is a chance to celebrate all babies who have been cared for in the Wadley NICU over the years. An invitation is warmly extended to the many patients and their families who received care in the Wadley NICU\, which was recently designated a Level II NICU in November 2017. \n  \nThis celebration is an opportunity for families from around the Texarkana area to reunite with nurses who not only cared for their babies\, but helped the parents through an emotional and trying time.  “The staff has been the driving force behind getting this event put together\,” claims Shelby Brown\, director of marketing and planning for Wadley. “They are so excited to be able to reconnect with these very special deliveries and their families!”    \n  \nThere will be lots of games for the kids to play\, balloon animals by Daryl Miller\, hand prints\, and face painting.  To commemorate the day\, there will be a photo area for families to use their own camera. A birthday party would not be complete without a Birthday cake\, popcorn\, and a lemonade stand for all to enjoy. There will be fabulous Door Prizes and every child will receive a gift. \n  \n“We are excited to see these patients and families that it’s been our honor to care for in our NICU\,” says Antonette Reed\, Director Maternal and Child\, Wadley Regional Medical Center. “We hope that April’s NICU Birthday Party will be the first of many more to come in the years ahead. It should be a fun time for our current and former nurses to reconnect with patients who are now growing up healthy and strong!” \n  \nThe Texarkana Arkansas Fire Department will be on hand with a fire truck for children to experience up close and Sylvia Jennings with the Texas Department of Public Safety will be available for car seat checks.  It is important to have you child in a car seat\, but just as important is to have them restrained correctly. The Wadley Trauma Department will also have information on Arkansas and Texas State laws in reference to seatbelt usage. \n  \nWadley has been the Birth Place of Texarkana for generations. With the area’s most experienced birthing staff\, Wadley has set a precedent for childbirth excellence in the Four-State area by being the first designated 10 Step Hospital and first Mother-Friendly Worksite in Texarkana. The Texas 10 Step program\, developed in 1999\, is a method for improving maternity care practices in birthing facilities. The program aids birthing facilities in improving breastfeeding outcomes through adoption of best practices. As a Mother-Friendly Worksite\, Wadley Regional Medical Center proactively supports employees who choose to breastfeed their infants.  Our nursery provides newborn\, transition and Level II intensive care with 24-hour neonatology service. Additionally\, Wadley Regional Medical Center is a Blue Cross/Blue Shield Blue Distinction+ Center for Maternity Care – the only in Texarkana\, demonstrating better overall patient satisfaction and a lower percentage of early elective deliveries.

SUMMARY:Go Red Day
DESCRIPTION:TEXarkana\, Texas:   In support of Go Red for Women\, Wadley Regional Medical Center is participating in the National Wear Red Day on Friday\, February 2.  Cardiovascular disease in the U.S. kills approximately one woman every 80 seconds. The good news is that 80 percent of cardiac events may be prevented with education and lifestyle changes. Go Red For Women advocates for more research and swifter action for women’s heart health. \nGo Red For Women is a movement to encourage women to know their numbers. It’s knowledge that could save your life.  Five numbers\, that all women should know to take control of their heart health are: Total Cholesterol\, HDL (good) Cholesterol\, Blood Pressure\, Blood Sugar and Body Mass Index (BMI). Knowing these numbers can help women and their healthcare provider determine their risk for developing cardiovascular diseases.  It’s time for all women to learn the most critical numbers in their life — their hearts depend on it. \nThe event will be held at the Wadley Senior Clinic from 9:00 am – 11:00 am. There will be vital information\, free blood screenings and blood pressure checks\, heart healthy snacks with recipe cards\, a free gift for every woman dressed in red\, and a chance to meet some of the providers of the Wadley HeartCare Network.
