FCI Texarkana Worker Accused of Sex with Prisoner

A former Prisons Case Manger at Federal Correctional Institution Texarkana is being accused of having sex with an inmate.

According to a criminal information filed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Locker in the Texarkana division of the Eastern District of Texas, On or about June 1, 2014, within the boundaries of Federal Correctional Institution Texarkana, the defended, Shelonda Chares, knowingly engaged in a sexual act with a prisoner who was at that time in official detention and under the custodial or supervisory authority of the defendant.
According to the information Chares was the prisoners Bureau of Prisons Case Manager while he was incarcerated at FCI Texarkana.

Chares is being charged with sexual abuse of a ward which is punishable by up to 15 years in federal prison, a fine up to $250,000 or both.

Documents were also filed indicating that Chares and the government have reached a plea agreement.

Chares will face U.S. Magistrate Judge Caroline Craven in Texarkana Federal Court for the first time November 25.
