A five-man, seven-woman jury was picked Tuesday at the Bowie County courthouse in New Boston, Texas to determine if a registered sex offender accused of attacking a 12-year-old girl last year has re-offended.
According to a probable cause affidavit and complaint, Joshua Jacobs, 33, was already required to register as a sex offender when he allegedly attacked a girl who was outside playing with her dog in a Texarkana, Texas neighborhood Nov. 25, 2014. Jacobs is accused of holding the girl down while he assaulted her with his hands.
Texas Department of Public Safety sex offender registration records state Jacobs was convicted of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile in Louisiana on April 19, 2010, and sentenced to probation for three years. Aggravated sexual assault of a child is punishable by five to 99 years or life in Texas.
The trial is scheduled to begin Wednesday morning before 102nd District Judge Bobby Lockhart.
