Woman shot and killed after standoff with police

New Boston, Texas | Police shot and killed a woman after a 2 plus hour standoff late Thursday night into early Friday morning.

Police shot and killed Elizabeth Harris, 58, of New Boston after she allegedly fired multiple shots at officers.

New Boston Police originally responded to a home in the 200 block of North Center Street in New Boston for reports of a suicidal person. When they arrived on scene Harris fired multiple shots at them. Bowie County Sheriff’s Office also responded and made contact with Harris on the phone.

According to police radio traffic, Harris was upset after her father recently died and she learned she was not in his will.

After around two hours Harris stepped out of the house and began firing at officers again. Officers returned fire striking and killing Harris.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting.
