beverlyThe City of Texarkana, Texas’ Planning and Community Development Department is currently working with community leaders in the Beverly Heights neighborhood to host a National Night Out block party on Tuesday, October 7th, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This effort, dubbed “Believe in Beverly” will also lead to a neighborhood blitz clean-up on Friday, November 7th, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The effort to clean up the Beverly Heights neighborhood was developed from residents of the neighborhood who are interested in partnering with the city and their neighbors to revitalize the Beverly area. The Planning and Community Development Department at the city has taken the lead on the project, pulling together many different resources from across the city.

Planning and Community Development Director, David Orr, summarizes the effort.

“The Beverly neighborhood is in need of some attention and this is our chance to make a huge impact in this area of our city,” Orr said. “The block party will increase awareness of the Believe in Beverly campaign and we will hopefully recruit volunteers for the neighborhood blitz clean up planned for November.”

The neighborhood blitz will be a one-day event focused on painting, planting, cleaning, re-building and generally revitalizing about a 12 block area of Beverly, from Tucker to Waterman and Virginia to Wheeler. The city needs volunteers from the entire community to join in the clean-up effort.

“There will be a job for everyone who wants to help,” Orr said. “Whether you can paint a door, replace a window, or plant some flowers, we can use your help. We’re hoping that student organizations, church groups, and businesses all get involved to make this blitz a success.”

To register as a volunteer, visit ci.texarkana.tx.us and sign up under “How Do I”.

Sponsors are also needed for the Believe in Beverly campaign.
“We want to partner with businesses located in the Beverly district that are interested in seeing the neighborhood revitalized,” Orr said. “There are various levels of support, and the businesses will receive the proper recognition for their help.”
