TEXARKANA, Texas–A man who allegedly shoved his girlfriend down a set of
steep porch steps, breaking her leg, has been charged with aggravated
assault and is currently free on a $50,000 bond.
Christopher Esparza, 49, was allegedly arguing with his girlfriend on Jan.
16 at a residence in the 700 block of Eylau Hills when he pushed her from
behind, causing her to fall, according to a probable cause affidavit.
A deputy with the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office who responded to the call,
noted that the steps to the porch at the residence were “unusually steep.”
When law enforcement arrived, the woman was on the ground being treated by
a neighbor who identified himself as a member of a local volunteer fire
department. The woman was “screaming in pain” and her right knee “was in an
unusually bent position,” the affidavit said.
Esparza was arrested and later released from the Bowie County jail on bond,
according to the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office.
If convicted of aggravated assault, Esparza faces two to 20 years in prison.
The case has been assigned to 102nd District Judge Jeff Addison.
