Am I eligible to vote?

To register to vote in Bowie County, you must:

  • Be a United States citizen.
  • Be a resident of Bowie County.
  • Be at least 17 years and 10 months old when you apply, and 18 by Election Day.
  • Not be finally convicted of a felony, or, if you were, have completed your sentence, including any parole, supervision or probation.
  • Not have been declared mentally incapacitated by a court without the right to vote.

Texas does not register voters by political party. You choose a Republican or Democratic ballot only at primary elections; it does not lock you into a party.

How to register

Texas has no online voter registration

You cannot complete a brand-new registration over the internet in Texas. You must fill out a paper application and mail or deliver it to the county. Plan ahead so it arrives by the deadline.

Your application must be received or postmarked at least 30 days before the election. For the Nov. 3 general election, that deadline is Monday, Oct. 5, 2026.

Good news: Bowie County uses vote centers

Bowie County takes part in the countywide polling place program. Any registered Bowie County voter may vote at any location in the county, during early voting or on Election Day, no matter where in the county you live.

What to bring: voter ID

To vote in person in Texas, bring one of these seven acceptable forms of photo ID:

  • Texas driver license issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS)
  • Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
  • Texas personal identification card issued by DPS
  • Texas handgun license issued by DPS
  • U.S. military identification card with photo
  • U.S. citizenship certificate with photo
  • U.S. passport (book or card)

Expiration rules: For voters 18 to 69, the ID may be expired no more than four years. For voters 70 or older, an otherwise valid ID may be expired any length of time. A U.S. citizenship certificate never expires.

No photo ID? You can still vote.

If you do not have one of the seven IDs and cannot reasonably get one, you may sign a Reasonable Impediment Declaration at the polls and show a supporting document such as a utility bill, bank statement, government check, government document, or your voter registration certificate. Voters with a qualifying disability may apply for a permanent ID exemption through the county.

Vote by mail

Voting by mail in Texas is limited. You may qualify if you:

  • Are 65 years of age or older on Election Day;
  • Are sick or disabled;
  • Are out of the county during early voting and on Election Day;
  • Expect to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day;
  • Are confined in jail but otherwise eligible, or are civilly committed.
