TEXARKANA, Texas — Zack Fischer, a Texarkana native, won the first Korn Ferry Tour title of his career Sunday at the inaugural OccuNet Classic in Amarillo, a breakthrough that came in his 16th year as a professional golfer.
Fischer finished at 14-under 266 for a one-stroke victory at Tascosa Golf Club, according to PGA Tour results. He closed with a two-putt par from 44 feet on the 72nd hole and earned the $180,000 winner’s share of the $1 million purse.
A career of comebacks
In its account of the victory, the Korn Ferry Tour traced a 16-year career defined by setbacks and recoveries. Fischer first earned his tour card as medalist at the Final Stage of Q-School in 2013, the tour said. He spent four seasons on the circuit before losing his card after 2017, then competed on mini-tours and what is now PGA Tour Americas for the next four years.
He medaled at Final Stage again in 2021 to regain his status and played full Korn Ferry Tour schedules in 2022 and 2023, according to the tour. After a season on PGA Tour Americas in 2024, he returned to the Korn Ferry Tour in 2025 but finished 93rd in the standings and lost his full card.
Fischer began 2026 with only conditional status, the tour said. In March, in his second start of the year, he made the cut at the Astara Chile Classic and finished T11, climbing the points list and earning additional starts through the reshuffle — the stretch that set up Sunday’s win.
Family in Amarillo
Fischer’s wife, Katie, their two daughters and his parents were in Amarillo for the victory, which came in the city where his mother was born, according to the Korn Ferry Tour. The tour said Katie has worked multiple jobs throughout his career, including as a graphic designer — she designed the “ZF” logo on his hat — and part time as a court reporter. During the champion’s toast, Fischer said the trophy was really hers, the tour reported.
A win close to home
Fischer was born in Texarkana, Texas, and his first Korn Ferry Tour title came at the tour’s first OccuNet Classic, in his home state. Orange was his team color as a high school and college golfer in Texas, the tour noted, and he wore orange Sunday as he closed out the win.
