Man Accused Of Stealing Septic System From Employer

TEXARKANA, Texas–A Texarkana man accused of stealing a septic system and components from his employer valued at more than $4,000 has been charged with felony theft of property.

Michael Scott Lindsey, 54, was allegedly working at Thatcher Concrete on South Kings Highway when a septic system and related components went missing on March 28, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The business owner utilized GPS information from a company truck to determine that a truck had left the yard that date and traveled to the Tall Oaks area. The owner allegedly observed a new septic system had been installed after traveling to the area, and suspected Lindsey because he was known to make money on the side doing such installations.

The owner reportedly confronted Lindsey at the end of April, the affidavit said. Lindsey allegedly claimed he had forgotten to tell the office he had taken the equipment. He was terminated from his job that day, the affidavit said.

Several days later, Lindsey allegedly met with the owner again and provided a different account. He allegedly told the owner he had taken the system because he needed to earn extra money ahead of surgery he had scheduled so that he would have funds during the time he would be in recovery and unable to work.

Lindsey is currently free on a $2,000 bond, according to the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office.

He has been charged with theft of property, $2,500 to $30,000. He faces six months to two years in a state jail if convicted.

The case has been assigned to Fifth District Judge Bill Miller. An attorney of record was not listed Wednesday for Lindsey.
