Pair Arrested After Pointing BB Guns At People In Central Texarkana

TEXARKANA, Texas — Two people were arrested early Sunday morning after Texarkana Texas police received multiple 911 calls about a man and woman driving around pointing guns at people near West 10th and Bowie streets.

The weapons turned out to be BB guns — but police say in the moment, no one could tell the difference.

Around 11:40 p.m. on July 5, dispatch began receiving calls about the pair. A short time later, Sgt. Cory Motley spotted the vehicle in the 1500 block of Crockett Street and initiated a traffic stop.

Once the two occupants were safely out of the vehicle, officers found two BB guns inside — an AK-47-style rifle and a 1911-style pistol. Both looked indistinguishable from real firearms, police said.

Monica Yates, 29, and Jeremiah Glass, 46, were both arrested for Possession of Dangerous Toys. The pair insisted they never pointed the guns at anyone, but police said one witness had already taken photos showing otherwise.

Glass also tried giving officers a fake name at the scene. After determining his real identity, officers discovered he had an outstanding probation violation warrant and was the subject of an active protective order involving Yates. He picked up additional charges of Failure to Identify and Violation of a Protective Order.

Yates was released the next morning after posting a $286 bond. Glass remains in the Bi-State Jail with a total bond of $7,286.

Police urged the public to consider the danger of brandishing realistic-looking weapons.

“If you point something that looks exactly like a real gun at someone, don’t be surprised when they react like it’s a real gun,” the department said in a statement. “The people you threaten — and the officers responding to the call — have no way of knowing the difference in the moment and the consequences very well might be deadly.”
