William Floyd Winter (CWO3, Ret.), age 92, of Mount Pleasant, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Born on May 13, 1934, in Fulton County, Illinois, to Lendal Lavern and Margaret Ann Winter, William lived a life defined by faith, service, hard work, and devotion to those he loved.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army for 22 years, including Korean and Vietnam War, retiring as the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3. His military career was a source of great pride, and he carried the values of honor, integrity, and dedication with him throughout his life.
Of all the titles he held, "husband," "dad," "grandpa," and "great-grandpa" were the ones he treasured most. For 71 wonderful years, he shared a loving marriage with his beloved wife, Eva, building a lifetime of memories, laughter, and unwavering commitment together. His family was the center of his world, and he found his greatest joy in spending time with those he loved.
William was preceded in death by parents, Lendal Lavern and Margaret Ann Winter, and beloved daughter, Debra J. Whigham.
He leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his love and guidance: devoted wife, Eva Winter; daughters, Nina Scales and Elaine Zucca; grandsons, Wayne Scales and Jason Whigham; granddaughter, Gianna Zucca; great-grandsons, Easton Zucca, Waylon Whigham, and Waylon Tenbrook; along with many extended family members and dear friends.
William will be remembered for his quiet strength, his steadfast loyalty, and the love he gave so freely to his family. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of service, kindness, and enduring love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Chapelwood Funeral Home.
