Two arrested after chase hits nearly 100 mph, ends in crash on East Broad Street

TEXARKANA, Ark. — Two people are facing felony charges after a Thursday night pursuit that reached speeds near 100 mph, crossed into oncoming traffic and ended with a crash in Miller County, police said.

Texarkana Arkansas Police officers tried to stop a vehicle in the 2900 block of Arkansas Boulevard around 7:20 p.m. Aug. 6 after seeing a traffic violation, according to TAPD. As officers walked up, the driver accelerated and took off.

The chase covered nearly 5 miles and ran through city streets, an open field and residential neighborhoods, police said. At one point the driver crossed into oncoming traffic to pass another vehicle. At another, the vehicle turned directly in front of a motorcycle and nearly caused the rider to lose control.

The driver then went down a dead-end road, turned around and drove back toward officers, striking a TAPD patrol unit before fleeing again, according to the department.

Supervisors called off the pursuit because of the damage to the patrol car and the risk to the public.

Officers kept looking. TAPD patrol units, the 8th South Narcotics Task Force, Miller County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Arkansas State Police worked together to find the vehicle, which turned up on East Broad Street. It crashed into another vehicle in the 7400 block of East Broad Street in Miller County.

Both people inside ran. Officers from the responding agencies caught them a short time later without further incident, police said.

Anna Reed, 39, of Monroe, Louisiana, faces felony fleeing by vehicle, two counts of felony second-degree battery, felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, two counts of felony drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor fleeing on foot.

Kevin Martin, 47, of Maud, Texas, faces felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, two counts of felony drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor fleeing on foot.

Both were booked into the Miller County Jail.

TAPD credited the officers and deputies involved and said the driving put motorists, a motorcyclist, officers and the public at significant risk.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
