Gary Douglas Broom, age 68, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2026, after a brief but courageous battle against a rare form of cancer. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on August 31, 1957, to Sue Middleton Broom and Douglas Broom.
Gary was known for his funny, easygoing personality and his playful spirit. A prankster at heart, he had a way of bringing laughter and joy to those around him. He was a selfless man who cherished his family deeply and embodied the true meaning of love and devotion. He was fiercely protective of his wife, Gina, and son, Christian.
Gary loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, water skiing, and spending time enjoying the beauty of nature. He was always busy building or creating anything he could get his hands on and took great pride in his projects. He also loved taking cruises whenever the opportunity arose and enjoyed visiting casinos and trying his luck.
A devoted New Orleans Saints fan, Gary proudly cheered on his favorite team, whether watching them on television or attending games in person. His many interests and adventures reflected his fun-loving nature and his desire to enjoy life to the fullest. He retired after thirty years with Inspec Foams (Boyd Corp) in Magnolia, Arkansas.
Above all, Gary treasured his family and the memories they shared. His kind heart, sense of humor, easygoing nature, and joyful spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Douglas Broom, and sister-in- law, Karen Moon Braswell.
Left to carry on his legacy is his loving wife of thirty-six years, Gina Moon Broom of Texarkana, Arkansas; son, Christian Broom of Texarkana, Texas; step-sister, Jeanne and husband Ronnie Dupree of Ida, Louisiana; and Julie and husband Mike Rogers of Rodessa, Louisiana; Sue Perkins of Mooringsport, Louisiana; special friend, Matthew Miller; and sister-in-law, Angie and husband Tommy Pilgreen of Texarkana, Texas; nephew Gage Pilgreen; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Hospice of Texarkana for the kindness, compassion, and care they showed us each day. We are also deeply grateful to Dr. Cingam and the nurses and staff of the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Ochsner LSU Health Center for their dedicated care and support.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Texarkana or the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center at Ochsner LSU Health.
The family will receive friends at Texarkana Funeral Home, Arkansas, one hour prior to service time from 3:00 to 4:00 P.M.
A celebration of life for Gary will be at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Texarkana Funeral Home, Arkansas, with Rev. Dennis Gibbons officiating.
