Nancy Lund-English was born in Kansas City, MO, on July 14,1949 to Edward Maurice Bailey and Helen Marie Hammontree, the middle of five children alongside her siblings Janice, Linda, Sharon and Edward “Bo.”

Nancy often spoke fondly of her childhood, grateful for the travels and adventure of growing up as a proud "Army Brat,” with her father serving in the Army. The Bailey family moved frequently throughout her youth, living in various parts of the United States as well as in Europe, especially Germany, which held a special place in her heart, and she carried those memories with her throughout her life. She started working in Dallas as a secretary then went west in her red Volkswagen to Los Angeles and worked for the ABC network in Burbank, CA in the accounting department.

She received her BS from Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, ID in 1994 and attended West Los Angeles School of Law. She is the Honorable Nancy Lund serving terms as Texas State Commissioner for the Department of Aging and Disabilities as well as Family and Protective Service Council in Austin.

Nancy was a devoted member of the Methodist Church, where her faith remained a steady presence throughout her years. She traveled on missionary trips to Jamaica and Israel. She found joy in life's simple pleasures — she enjoyed a morning cup of coffee, working through a good crossword puzzle and spent many happy hours as part of the Dogwood Garden Club.

Nancy will be remembered for her calm warmth and charm, greeting you with a smile. She was a graceful host with elegant slender beauty, gracious and courteous, always pleasant to talk with, who listened whole-heartedly and offered well-chosen words of wisdom when they were needed most. Above all, she was kind and perceptive, accepting all your inequities and with a breath of kindness and just blew the rest away. She was a very selfless person seeking to satisfy the needs of others before her own. She was a steadfast worker who needed little instruction and innately knew what needed to be done and how to fit in effectively. Anyone who spent time with her came away feeling heard and valued.

She became active with and a founding member of the Texarkana Symphony Orchestra and met the love of her life and future eclectic husband, Dr. George W. English, III proudly supporting him as he sang with the Texarkana Regionale Chorale (TRC), the Singing Men of Texas, playing the bagpipes. They traveled and attended numerous local events, throughout the US and abroad, particularly Scotland, where they became Guardians of Dyaart Castl on the Isle of Skye. They both loved their families and children particularly Nancy’s grand nieces and nephew and their dogs.

Nancy passed away peacefully August 9, 2026, with love, dignity and grace in the arms of her devoted loving husband at her home in Texarkana, Texas, who adored her and cared for her throughout her protracted illness.

A celebration of life service will be held at Williams United Methodist Church on Saturday, Aug. 29, at 2 p.m.

An exciting celebratory concert by Texarkana WINDS and TRC composed of collections of the soundtracks of her favorite movies featuring French horns, her favorite instrument will be presented in her honor at Williams United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 14th at 7:00 PM.
