Susan Lynn ‘Susie’ Henderson,78, passed away peacefully at her home on August 18, 2026. She was born on February 24, 1948, in DeQueen, Arkansas, to the late Marlin Kirk and Ollie Mae Zachry.

Susie was raised in Hooks, Texas. She graduated from Hooks High School in 1966, and East Texas State University-Commerce in 1970. After graduation, Susie returned to Hooks and began her teaching career. She taught business courses and was director of Student. Council and UIL. Most of her students can remember her saying, ‘Stop, Stop Typing!’ And ‘Eyes on Copy. Begin!’ Susie was a passionate teacher and loved her job until her retirement in 2002. After 32 years, she retired to keep her granddaughter, Emma, who was born 3 months prematurely. She was the absolute best Nanny. Emma was her world!

She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Hooks, where she played the organ/piano, taught Sunday school, VBS, and actively served on several committees. After retirement, she also enjoyed attending BSF Bible Study. Susie loved the Lord and it showed in how she lived her life. She had such a sweet, generous spirit—always putting others before herself. She was a natural caregiver.

Susie loved to work in her flower beds before she got sick. She always said it was her ‘therapy’. Her family brought so much joy to her life; she never missed a sporting event, dance recital, cheer competition, or anything that Emma, Holly or Heather were involved in.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Henderson; her daughter, Holly Henderson; her parents, Marlin and Ollie Zachry and brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Marguerite Henderson.

She is survived by her daughter, Heather Farquhar,; granddaughter, Emma Caroline Farquhar; brother Kirk Zachry and wife Rose; sister-in-law, Etta Hooker(Billy), sister-in-law, Glenna Talbot, sister-in-law, Dana Gooch(Don); nieces Leslee Day(Jon) and Brooke Johnston(Blake) along with many other nieces, nephews, family and friends, including a very special fur baby, Molly Mae.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 20th from 6-8 pm at Chapelwood Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Friday, August 21st at 1pm at Chapelwood with the Chuck Huffman and Keith Ducroz officiating.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Texarkana, Ashley’s Care and House Call (especially her sitters Whitney and Tiffany) for taking such great care of Susie.
