Man Accused Of Leaving 1-Year-Old Alone Charged With Felony
TEXARKANA, Texas–A man accused of leaving his 1-year-old home alone last week allegedly showed up at the home of family members wearing nothing but underwear while the child’s mother was away.
Daquayvion Deondre Putilla, 25, allegedly appeared to be under the influence of an unknown narcotic when he entered a family member’s house around 10:30 p.m. Aug. 12, according to a probable cause affidavit. Putilla allegedly told relatives the baby was “in police custody,” complained of a burning sensation, and then went into the bathroom to shower.
Concerned for the safety of the toddler, the family members traveled to the home he shared with the baby’s mother in the 800 block of Main St. in Texarkana, Texas, the affidavit said. There they reportedly found the child sleeping alone in a bed. Officers noted that there was no adult supervision in the home and that the child could have fallen from the bed.
The child’s mother returned home and took custody of the child. She reportedly advised officers that she had left the baby with Putilla.
Officers went to the home of Putilla’s relatives in the 1400 block of Martin Luther King Blvd. They allegedly found Putilla nude in a closet covered by a blanket, the affidavit said. Putilla allegedly told the officers “his skin was burning from intercourse and he had to take a shower.”
Putilla is currently being held in the Bowie County jail with bail set at $50,000.
If convicted of abandoning or endangering a child, he faces two to ten years in prison.
Putilla is represented by the Bowie County Public Defender’s Office. The case has been assigned to 202nd District Judge John Tidwell.
