Man shot in drive-by shooting at Smith Keys

An arrest warrant has been issued for a Juvenile for shooting a man in a drive-by shooting Sunday afternoon.

According to police, around 2:45 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a shots fired call at Smith Keys Apartment at 3302 Washington. Upon officer’s arrival, a gunshot victim was found near building six of the apartment complex. The victim had suffered a gunshot wound to the right rear posterior. The victim stated that he was standing near a parked vehicle when a white four door passenger car drove slowly through the complex past the victim. The victim then advised that the vehicle turned around in the parking lot and traveled back toward the victim’s location. According to the victim, the driver of the vehicle lowered the vehicle’s driver’s side window, fired a handgun at the victim, striking the victim.

The victim was transported to Wadley Hospital where he was treated for his injury.

A description of the suspect vehicle was broadcast to local law enforcement, and a short time after the shooting, TAPD officers located a vehicle matching the description travelling on E. 9th Street. Officers attempted to make a traffic stop on this vehicle, but it’s driver fled from officers in the vehicle. After a short vehicle pursuit, officers lost sight of the vehicle near E. 9th and State Line Ave. This vehicle was a newer model white Honda four door.

During the investigation, detectives learned the identity of the suspect through interviews. The suspect has been identified as a juvenile, and an arrest warrant was been issued.
