In an effort to assist those impacted by the flooding, state legislators in southwest Arkansas are joining together to ask their constituents to help their neighbors in the northeast part of the state.

Sen. Jimmy Hickey, Sen. Bruce Maloch, Sen. Larry Teague, Rep. Carol Dalby, Rep. David Fielding, Rep. Lane Jean, Rep. DeAnn Vaught, and Rep. Danny Watson are encouraging residents in their districts to donate cash or gift cards from Walmart, Home Depot, or Lowe’s. Prepaid Visa cards can also be donated.

The contributions can be dropped off at the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce at 819 State Line Avenue from now until May 19.

“Those of us in Southwest Arkansas know all too well the long lasting effects of floods,” said Rep. Carol Dalby. “These donations can help purchase fans, home repair items, and everyday necessities.”

“Though we are separated by distance, we are one. When one of our fellow Arkansans hurts, we all hurt,” said Sen. Jimmy Hickey.
