ArkLaTex 100 Club Recognizes Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

January 9 marks Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (LEAD), a national observance recognizing the men and women who serve in law enforcement and protect communities every day.

Kelley Crisp, President of the ArkLaTex 100 Club, said the day is an opportunity for community members to show their appreciation in meaningful ways by supporting organizations that provide direct, practical assistance to first responders and their families.

“As President of the ArkLaTex 100 Club and as an assistant district attorney who works closely with law enforcement every day, I see firsthand what these officers are asked to handle,” Crisp said. “When line-of-duty losses or unbudgeted needs arise, support for first responders becomes a real, immediate need.”

From its founding, the ArkLaTex 100 Club has stood ready, as its core objective, to provide immediate financial support to the loved ones of any area first responder who dies in the line of duty in Bowie and Miller Counties. As the nonprofit organization grew, it expanded its mission by providing unbudgeted lifesaving equipment to local police and fire departments.

Crisp, who serves as Bowie County first assistant criminal district attorney and a felony prosecutor, said strong public safety depends on more than arrests—it depends on follow-through, accountability and ensuring those on the front lines are supported when the system alone is not enough.

“Justice doesn’t exist in a vacuum,” Crisp said. “Law enforcement officers do their jobs under immense pressure, and community support plays a real role in helping them continue that work safely and effectively.”

Observed annually on January 9, Law Enforcement Appreciation Day provides a moment for communities to recognize the commitment and sacrifice of first responders and to support the organizations that stand behind them.
