During the month of May, Ben’s Heart Ministry is calling on the community to take part in the “22/Day Challenge,” an initiative designed to honor the estimated 22 veterans who lose their battle with PTSD each day in the United States. The challenge encourages participants to complete an activity connected to the number 22 and then inspire others to join the movement.
The concept is simple but powerful: choose an activity involving 22 minutes or 22 repetitions, record it, and share it to the Ben’s Heart Ministry Facebook page. Participants can walk 2.2 miles, do 22 push-ups, send 22 messages of encouragement, pray or meditate for 22 minutes, swim 22 laps, or choose any meaningful action tied to the number 22. The goal is to spark conversation, build awareness, and create a ripple effect of support throughout the community.
Businesses, civic groups, churches, schools, families, and individuals are all encouraged to take part and challenge others to do the same.
The month-long effort will conclude on Memorial Day, when participants and supporters will walk 22 miles across Texarkana in honor of veterans and to continue raising awareness about PTSD and veteran suicide.
Ben’s Heart Ministry, founded in October 2023 by Suzy Kroll, was created in memory of her son, Benjamin “Ben” Kroll, a U.S. military veteran who faced combat-related Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. What began as a mother’s tribute has grown into a nonprofit dedicated to supporting veterans and their families, promoting mental health awareness, and fostering safe spaces for healing and connection.

While the organization’s mission centers on veterans, its outreach extends to anyone in need of compassion and support. “We believe anyone who reaches out deserves care,” the ministry emphasizes, reflecting its commitment to encouragement, understanding, and community connection.
Ben’s Heart Ministry hosts Veterans Gatherings on the first and third Saturdays of each month at Life House Outreach Center, offering fellowship, resources, and a supportive environment. The organization also remains active year-round through community events, including its largest annual effort—the Veterans Day Parade and Extravaganza. The 2025 event connected more than 600 veterans with resources, vendors, food trucks, and live entertainment. Plans for the 2026 celebration are already underway, with the event scheduled for November 14, 2026, and set to conclude with a live concert featuring country artist Gary Allan.
Through its Ben’s Kids program, the ministry also supports children in veteran families by providing school supplies, essentials, and age-appropriate activities during gatherings.
With the 22/Day Challenge, Ben’s Heart Ministry hopes to shine a light on the struggles many veterans face long after their service ends—and to remind the community that awareness, compassion, and connection can save lives.
