Local fire departments respond to assist in Canton tornado

Members of several Texarkana area volunteer fire departments responded to Canton, Texas to assist in search and rescue efforts after a Tornado hit the town Saturday evening.

According to a Facebook post by Redwater Volunteer Fire Department, members of Redwater, Simms, Liberty Eylau and Pleasant Grove fire departments mobilized and drove through the night to make it to Canton first thing Sunday morning.

According to news reports, at least 4 people have been killed and nearly 50 people were sent to the hospital for storm-related injuries. Two people have been reported missing.

According to Liberty Eylau firefighter Kevin Wesselhoft, crews spent the day clearing homes and neighborhoods from all the damages caused by the tornado. They have now been released and are heading back home.
