TEXARKANA, Texas – Two men remain in critical condition following a violent weekend in Texarkana that saw two separate shootings occurring less than 12 hours apart. The Texarkana Texas Police Department (TTPD) has launched investigations into both incidents, one of which has resulted in the arrest of a father accused of shooting his son.
The second incident took place around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday in the 3000 block of Lester Street.
Responding officers discovered a 43-year-old man lying in the driveway suffering from a single gunshot wound to the neck. According to police reports, officers could not initially find a pulse and immediately began life-saving measures, performing CPR and working to control the bleeding until paramedics arrived.
The victim was transported to CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital in critical condition.
Police arrested the victim’s father, 65-year-old Calvin Young, at the scene. He has been booked into the Bi-State Jail on charges of Aggravated Assault Involving Serious Bodily Injury. Detectives stated that while the suspect is in custody, the specific motive leading up to the shooting remains unknown at this time.
The violence began late Saturday night, around 11:15 p.m., at an apartment complex in the 300 block of Robison Place.
Investigators say a 61-year-old man was shot multiple times after answering his door and allowing two unidentified men inside his apartment. Following the assault, the suspects stole a small safe before fleeing the scene.
The victim was rushed to CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital, where he also remains in critical condition. No arrests have been made in connection with this case, and the investigation is ongoing.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding either the Robison Place robbery or the Lester Street shooting to come forward.
