At around 5:45 pm this afternoon, a driver of a small dark colored pick-up truck rear-ended a City of Texarkana, Texas vehicle at a high rate of speed. The pickup truck kept going for another 30-50 yards after the initial collision.
The driver of the truck was driving south on Highway 59 when he was approaching the red light at Highway 59 and Leopard Drive. The driver did not stop and struck the City’s white truck causing significant damage to the back right side. The dark colored truck sustained significant front end damage. Texarkana, Texas Police and Fire Departments responded immediately. The jaws of life had to be used to release the driver. A mason jar was visible with a clear substance, which witnesses stated was moonshine.
LifeNet took the City employee to St. Michael’s Hospital. Witnesses on scene stated that he had a laceration on his forehead. The driver of the dark colored truck had visible lacerations on his back and shoulders. However, he was not taken by LifeNet, but instead was placed in an officer’s car and taken to jail.
